Buying for someone with a PS5 is easier than it looks, as long as you avoid the one mistake that ruins a lot of gaming gifts. This guide sorts the best options by budget, from a $30 stocking stuffer to the gifts that change how someone plays. Every pick works on every current PS5 unless we say otherwise.

First, Ask One Question: Which PS5 Do They Have?

This matters more than anything else on the list. The PS5 Digital Edition and the PS5 Pro have no disc drive, so a boxed game will not play on them unless the owner bought Sony's separate drive. If you cannot find out quietly, skip boxed games and give a digital code or a PlayStation Store gift card instead. Those work on every model.

It also helps to know if they already own the game you are considering. A PlayStation Store gift card avoids that problem entirely, and it is never the wrong size.

Under $50

DualSense Charging Station (about $30). The most underrated PS5 gift. It charges two controllers at once without tying up the console's USB ports, and nobody buys one for themselves. If they have one controller, pair it with a second controller for a bigger gift.

PlayStation Store gift card (any amount). The safe choice when you do not know what they own or which PS5 they have. It can go toward games, add-ons, or a PS Plus membership. Make sure you buy a US card for a US account.

$50 to $100

A second DualSense (about $75). The gift almost every PS5 owner needs. A second controller means couch co-op and always having one charged. Sony sells it in a range of colors, including newer finishes like Techno Red, so it can double as a personal touch.

The Grand Theft Auto VI Limited Edition DualSense ($84.99). For the GTA fan, Sony's black and white GTA VI controllers launch with the game on November 19. The black version is exclusive to PlayStation Direct in the US, the white one is also sold through retailers, and both are limited, so do not wait until December.

PS Plus Essential, 12 months ($79.99). Required for online multiplayer in most games, plus monthly free games. Sony raised monthly PS Plus prices in May but left yearly memberships alone, so a 12-month code is now a much better deal than paying monthly. Check whether they already subscribe, since codes stack onto an existing membership rather than replacing it.

A great game. Our picks for anyone who does not already own them:

$100 to $200

Pulse Elite wireless headset (about $150). Sony's own headset, built for the PS5's 3D audio. It connects with no setup, has a retractable microphone, and comes with a charging hanger so it has a home next to the TV. A headset is the gift that changes how games feel more than anything else at this price.

A third-party wireless headset. Plenty of good options work with PS5. The SteelSeries Arctis Nova 7P is a popular pick that also connects to phones over Bluetooth. Whatever you choose, check that the box says PS5 compatible, because wireless headsets made for Xbox often are not.

PS Plus Extra, 12 months ($134.99). Everything in Essential, plus a rotating catalog of hundreds of PS5 and PS4 games. For someone who plays a lot of different things, this is a year of new games in one gift. Premium ($159.99) adds classic PlayStation games and cloud streaming.

DualSense Edge ($199.99). Sony's pro controller, with back buttons, adjustable triggers, and stick modules that can be replaced when they wear out. It is a fantastic gift for someone who plays competitive shooters or sports games. The trade-off is shorter battery life than a standard DualSense.

$200 and Up

PlayStation Portal ($249.99). A handheld screen that streams games from the owner's PS5 over Wi-Fi, so they can keep playing when someone else wants the TV. It is a brilliant gift for the right person, with two caveats: it is not a standalone handheld and needs a PS5 to stream from, and it depends on strong home Wi-Fi. Sony raised the price $50 in April and did not reverse that increase when it cut console prices in August.

More storage. The most useful big gift for anyone whose PS5 keeps running out of space, which is most owners, especially with GTA VI coming. The WD_BLACK SN850P for PS5 is the drive officially licensed for the console and installs with one screwdriver. SSD prices have roughly doubled this year, so check the current price before you buy. A Seagate Game Drive for PlayStation costs far less and works as overflow storage. Our PS5 SSD guide explains the difference.

One to skip for now: PS VR2. Sony lists it at $399.99, but it has been hard to find at that price since September, with third-party sellers charging far more. Do not pay a reseller markup for it.
